This is a famous Marian sanctuary. Just 44 km from Giżycko, it is located at the northern tip of Poland, about 70 kilometers northeast of Olsztyn and 6 kilometers east of Reszel. The origins of the Marian sanctuary date back to the 14th century and are known only from folk tales passed down orally for several centuries. The author of one of the writings speaks about the beginnings of Święta Lipka: "There is a famous place in Prussia named after a lime tree. Because a spreading lime tree has stood on this site for a very long time, and on it, almost with the first sowing of Christianity in Prussia, appeared a figurine of the Mother of God with the Child, a work of Divine hands."
