18.08.2022

The skin replaces cells on a regular basis, whose tasks include binding water and sealing the lipid mantle. Some cells die and can be replaced by new ones. Peeling is meant to support skin regeneration and thus delay age-related aging processes, with which the natural regeneration cycle begins to occur more slowly. Why else is it worth it? What should be kept in mind to get the best results? Check it out!

What is peeling?

Peeling is a cosmetic procedure whose aim is to exfoliate dead skin cells, as a result of which the skin becomes smoother, its color improves and discoloration is removed. Depending on the type of treatment, it can either run on the stratum corneum or reach deeper layers of the skin. Peeling stimulates the skin to produce new cells, also improves blood circulation in the skin and promotes the absorption of nutrients by it.

The abrasive action is due to the diamond or corundum crystals contained in peels in the case of mechanical peels, or chemical compounds with appropriate concentrations in chemical peels. In the case of enzyme peels, we deal with the action of enzymes obtained mainly from plants – papain obtained from papaya and bromelain from pineapple. There is also a cavitation peeling, which uses the phenomenon of pressure reduction and ultrasound to form and break down dead cells of the stratum corneum. What can we expect when deciding to peel?

The advantages of peeling depending on the depth of its action

The enzyme peeling is described as the mildest, while the chemical peeling is recommended for mature skin in need of tension and smoothing. Cavitation peeling is recommended for problematic acne skin. However, peels are also divided according to the degree of depth of their action. Thanks to this, the deepest-acting one can contribute to the reduction of wrinkles or scars. Deep peeling is performed even to a depth of 0.6 mm, which is why it is used under the supervision of a specialist in aesthetic medicine clinics.

Enzyme peels have a surface effect, so we can do them ourselves. They work well for the entire body and neckline, although we can also use them regularly on the face as an introduction to the application of other cosmetics. The medium-deep peeling, apart from the horny surface, also reaches the upper layer of the deep skin. It works well for firming the skin and reducing cellulite. When should you use a full body peel?

How to use a full body scrub?

First of all, remember to thoroughly cleanse the body and dry it, but to such an extent that the skin remains slightly moist. Then, starting from the feet, going up through the legs, abdomen, buttocks, up to the neckline, massage the peeling with circular movements. You can slightly wet your hands with each scrub. For those parts of the body where the skin is harder and rougher, such as knees or elbows, more time should be spent, while the more delicate areas should be treated more gently.

Body peeling – how to do it at home?

The most common type of peeling we reach for is coffee peeling, perhaps because caffeine significantly stimulates blood circulation and promotes cellulite reduction. To make such a product at home, you just need half a cup of coffee grounds, about 3 tablespoons of brown sugar and a tablespoon of oil binding everything together, such as olive oil. Equally uncomplicated in making is a sugar scrub, for which you just need half a glass of sugar, 3 tablespoons of olive oil and a spoon of honey acting moisturizing and smoothing. Salt peeling also has its followers, because its action is additionally anti-inflammatory and disinfecting. To make it you need half a glass of salt and 3 tablespoons of coconut oil.

Peeling done by yourself at home can be a problem as it is difficult to apply it on your back. Therefore, we often decide to visit a beauty salon, where it will be applied to all parts of the body. However, with the help of someone in the household, it can become an inexpensive and sufficiently frequent body care ritual.
