Holiday first-aid kit for adults and children – what to take with you?

19.08.2022

Our imagination starts to work at the thought of a vacation. We see the blue of the sky and a similar shade on the endless sea, the juicy green of exotic nature and colorful drinks. It happens, however, that holidays become a battlefield for a while.
Fierce and desperate, in which the type of weapon we will be equipped with will matter. It is important what we arm ourselves with and that is why the time of packing the suitcase is so important. What to take with you in the first aid kit on vacation to win the fight against the attacking disease as soon as possible?

Summer stormtroopers

There can be many intruders ready to attack. The fever may start the storm first, knowing it will scare and leave you helpless. Maybe it will be alone, or maybe it will get along with stomach problems, as we often react to changes in diet or water used. Other difficulties that often attack us on vacation are cough and runny nose, which are often associated with climate change or traveling in an air-conditioned car or plane. The tick and mosquito are eternal holiday fighters that no one has yet managed to eliminate, but the appropriate protective shields in many forms allow them to exist side by side with us in relative harmony.

First of all, antipyretics and painkillers, preferably the proven ones that work reliably. The fight against fever or abdominal pain will then be completed by us with quick success. Diarrhea will be dealt with with rehydration supplements, electrolyte replenishers, antiemetics and probiotics. Cough and runny nose require a redoubled arsenal in the form of syrups for dry and wet coughs, sprays for an irritated throat, and lozenges. Plus sea water for the nose and trusty drops. You can also reinforce yourself with stronger weapons, such as Frida for extracting catarrh in children. It’s a good idea to pack an inhaler for administering specific medication or saline in ampules. Such will also work well in situations when some unidentified object falls into the child’s or our eye.

Repellents and bite relievers are the basics for insect control. Next, weaponry for wounds in the form of patches of all sizes, bandages, sterile gauze, antiseptic wipes, hydrogen peroxide or Octenisept for cleaning wounds. Here, hydrogen peroxide in gel can work, which is more convenient to apply. A surgical patch may also come as a surprise to the enemy. This is a fairly new tool for fighting cuts on the skin, where such a patch can hold them together, like a stitch. On top of that, cooling compresses for bruises, swellings and bumps, and vacations do not frighten us.

A wolf in sheep’s clothing

Sometimes someone who is seemingly an ally in our vacation will behave a little maliciously, maybe just according to its nature. In the desired holiday the sun can literally burn us. Vacations in warm countries or in the heat of summer are often associated with sunburn. This is persistent for us, let alone for toddlers. Here, a preventive approach will be necessary, which may make it possible to avoid a clash. Sunscreen, head and shoulder coverings, sunglasses. Only then do we use the equipment in the form of soothing creams for burns, e.g. panthenol. However, let us not approach the sun bravely, but with humility and in the hottest hours, let us not expose our children to a battlefield where they and we will rather fall.

A well-stocked first aid kit is the first step to a successful vacation. In it, let’s not forget the medicines that we or our children use on a daily basis as prescribed by the doctor. Let’s remember to get prescriptions for them early and buy them for the trip.
