It may be hard to believe, but the most happens in the rain. Woody Allen demonstrated this well in his latest film "A Rainy Day in New York." One would think that a trip to this famous city in rainy weather would end in disappointment, yet a lot happens in the lives of the film's characters. Of course, we are on vacation and expect holiday weather, but life plays different tricks. What can we find under the heading: Giżycko attractions in the rain?
Yes, it's known that Giżycko in the rain is not like the cinematic New York. However, it is not as unremarkable as it might seem. Despite currently being home to only about 30,000 people, it's called the sailing capital of Poland. It lies in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship between Kisajno and Niegocin lakes and just this fact alone offers a lot. Fabulous lakes and forests are just the beginning. Bicycle, kayak, and hiking trails will satisfy those of us who appreciate a more active way of spending time. But it's true that such activities may not suit us on rainy days.

The Water Tower in Giżycko is a unique place both as a viewpoint and a museum, additionally equipped with a pretty good café with freshly brewed coffee. This 25m tall structure, completed in 1900, is built of red brick in the neo-Gothic style. It has 129 steps, though you can also take the elevator to the top. One can admire the surrounding forests, lakes, and city panorama from there. The café occupies two levels; at the very top there is a viewing terrace, and on several floors below is the museum section. An interesting way to spend a rainy afternoon, but where is the film adventure? What if, while gazing at the nearby Lake Niegocin, we get locked in the tower by someone who forgets to check the terrace? Moreover, we get stuck there with a local writer who will tell us the most closely guarded secrets of Masuria, and while sipping wine with us in the deserted café, reveal the plot of his latest novel. That's not all the attractions Giżycko offers in the rain.

A trip to the Indian Museum and Indian Village in Spytkowo a few kilometers from Giżycko hardly leaves any doubt that adventure awaits us regardless of the weather. There you can see traditional handicrafts, costumes, and weapons, as well as traditional tipis and huts. You can also shoot a bow at the shooting range, and in the bread house learn the secrets of baking rolls and cakes in a traditional wood-fired oven. We can also try our hand at making glycerin soap or bath bombs. Such fragrant and skin-friendly products we take home with us. And that’s certainly not the end, because we can be witnesses or participants of a tribal dance to summon the sun, giving hope that it will stop raining the next day.
Between the two lakes Kisajno and Niegocin, on a narrow isthmus lies the Boyen Fortress. Built between 1844-1856 by order of King Frederick William IV. Constructed in the shape of a star, it was designed to accommodate 3,000 soldiers. It turns out the fortress is an important part of the city's development as its construction provided jobs for people building earthen ramparts. Thanks to this, new residents began to arrive, contributing to the development of the entire Masurian region. It consists of 4 gates, and inside numerous bunkers and barracks. There is also a former carrier pigeon station on its grounds, and for the youngest there is a playground. Touring it takes up to 3 hours. Who knows, maybe thanks to a passionate guide we will be able to travel back in time to its construction days, get to know the former residents of Masuria, their culture and customs? It's still Woody Allen, but more like from the film "Midnight in Paris."

However, when dancing doesn’t help and it’s still raining in the evening, many of us give up walking on the pier and other strolls by the lake. When it rains, Giżycko also offers other entertainment, because sometimes after an intense day it’s just worth playing bowling or billiards. This is also an attraction for older children. Such options can be found in the hotel club. You can order your favorite drinks there. The bowling alley has 2 lanes. Who knows, maybe some self-appointed master of ceremonies will organize an exciting bowling tournament, with the prize being a lake cruise, romantic or family style, whichever you prefer.
As we see, Giżycko in the rain can become a city of adventure. Of course, it all depends on our openness to bad weather and other inconveniences as well as creativity, but usually those don't lack us during holidays.
