Giżycko is a town located in the Masuria region, which is also the main port on the Great Masurian Lakes route. Around Giżycko there are many beautiful green areas and a vast number of lakes. There are many cycling routes in Giżycko – ranging from just three to as much as 130 kilometers in length.

No matter what your fitness level is, you can embark on an interesting journey and spend active time with your family or friends. What are the most interesting cycling routes you can take from Giżycko?

Cycling route in Giżycko – 3 kilometers

Giżycko itself has a lot to offer. The main historic attractions in Giżycko include the magnificent 19th-century Boyen Fortress along with the surrounding buildings, including the rotating bridge from the same period, as well as the Teutonic castle, which currently houses a hotel. The cycling route in Giżycko is marked in black and leads from the train station through the most important city monuments to the junction of cycling routes in Giżycko (near Stanisław Moniuszko Street), from where you can continue your journey or turn back.

From Giżycko to Mikołajki along the lakes - 30 kilometers

Cycling routes in Giżycko lead in various directions. One of the routes can be taken to Mikołajki. It runs along the lakes: Niegocin, Boczny, and Jagodne. You pass through Wilkasy, Bogaczewo, and Woźnice. It is worth noting that the trail also goes through a bird reserve (Łuknajno Lake), and along the way, you cross a bridge in the village of Rydzewo, which is a beautiful viewpoint. Each of these places is worth a short rest. Of course, there is also a lake in Mikołajki itself where you can relax before heading back. The route is considered easy.

From Giżycko to Sztynort and back to Giżycko – 70 kilometers

The cycling trail is marked blue. It is a long route, so you need to set aside a whole day for it, but it is worth the effort due to the beautiful views and interesting places it passes through. Among them are certainly historical sites such as Hochwald in Pozezdrze (the former Heinrich Himmler headquarters) and Wolf's Lair in Gierłoż (the former Adolf Hitler headquarters). In Sztynort itself, there is a 17th-century palace. On this route, you will circle around four lakes (Kisajno, Dargin, Łabap, and Dobskie).

You should start from Giżycko through Świdry and Pieczarki to Pozezdrze (stop), then head to Sztynort (stop), from where you can go to Gierłoż (stop), and finally return to Giżycko via Piękna Góra.

Loop: Giżycko – Kruklanki — Pozezdrze - Świdry – Giżycko – 74 kilometers

You can also head from Giżycko towards Kruklanki and follow the blue trail around Lake Gołdopiwo. This is an 18-kilometer trail, so depending on your preferences, you can return to Giżycko from Kruklanki or continue further to Pozezdrze via the yellow trail. In Pozezdrze – as mentioned – there is Hochwald. From there, you can also ride to Giżycko, in which case the route will be 44 kilometers. However, if you wish, you can take the full way back along the route passing through Świdry.

From Giżycko to Śniardwy and back – 136 kilometers

The bike trip to Śniardwy from Giżycko is demanding. Not because of the difficulty of the route, which is considered very easy to overcome, but because of its length. For avid cyclists, however, it will be a pleasant journey through beautiful surroundings leading to an interesting place. Lake Śniardwy is the largest lake located in Poland.

From Giżycko through Ryn to Święta Lipka – 70 kilometers

The cycling route leads through Wilkasy, Ryn, Nakomiady, Gierłoż, and Kętrzyn. It is considered a route for more experienced cyclists because it passes through national roads. In Gierłoż, there is, of course, Wolf's Lair, while in Nakomiady there is a ceramics manufactory, and in Kętrzyn – the Teutonic castle. At the destination, in Święta Lipka, you can admire the Marian sanctuary.
