Luxury Hotel in a Historic Castle

Hotel St. Bruno is one of the most interesting accommodation facilities in Poland. The reconstructed medieval fortress has become the hallmark of Giżycko. Further in the article, you can read about the turbulent history of this place.

First, a few important organizational details…

Can the Giżycko castle be visited?

You often ask us about opening hours or entrance tickets. Therefore, we kindly inform you:

Out of concern for the comfort of our guests, who come to Hotel St. Bruno seeking relaxation, we do not offer castle tours to outsiders.

The building, after a complete renovation and the addition of a new wing, was not adapted for guided tours of individual visitors and organized groups.

Guests from outside the hotel can admire the building from the outside by walking along the paths of the park adjacent to the property. It is a great place for a walk, even after dark. Hotel St. Bruno, located in the former Teutonic castle, is impressively illuminated at night. The structure looks magnificent at every time of year – not only in spring and summer but also in autumn, when the leaves change color, and in winter, when the medieval walls are covered with white snow. Below the text, you will find some beautiful photographs.

Guests from outside are welcome to the modern SPA and Wellness zone, located in the castle's basement. We also offer single entry tickets to the pools, saunas, and jacuzzi. Residents of Giżycko and nearby towns can benefit from attractive pricing on passes.

Those who would like to spend time in luxurious interiors styled like a castle library are invited to the La Bibliotheque restaurant. We serve regional cuisine, using the treasures of the Masurian region.

From the 14th-century Teutonic castle to a four-star hotel

Hotel St. Bruno in Masuria was established in a historic Teutonic castle from the 14th century. In 2011, it was restored as a boutique hotel with 70 rooms, a modern SPA, swimming pool, conference center, and a stylish restaurant with exquisite cuisine. One of the most recognizable establishments on the Giżycko map, before turning into a luxury SPA hotel, repeatedly changed its character, purpose, and owners.

History of the Teutonic Castle in Giżycko

The first mentions of the Teutonic castle in Giżycko date back to 1340. The building originally served the knights of the Order of the Hospital of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the German House in Jerusalem and served a defensive function. While in the hands of the Teutonic Knights, it was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt.

After years, it transformed into a hunting Renaissance residence of Polish princes, and in the second half of the 19th century, became the headquarters of the commanders of the famous Boyen Fortress – one of the city's greatest tourist attractions.

The fate of the castle in the 20th century

In the 20th century, the castle was purchased by a private investor. The work to restore the building to its former glory lasted several years. Preserving the property's former character and creating a luxurious accommodation facility inside was a huge challenge.

Today, the Teutonic castle in Giżycko, housing Hotel St. Bruno, is one of the most important landmarks on the city's map. The restored medieval building with a history spanning over 700 years arouses interest among residents and tourists. Hotel St. Bruno can be admired on websites promoting the city and in travel brochures.
